England's National Health Service has selected the Virginia Mason Institute, one of the safest hospitals in the nation, to help the agency replicate its management system, which centers on improving patient safety and care quality while controlling healthcare costs, according to an announcement. Developed in 2002, Virginia Mason's structured and standardized methodology allows for operational efficiencies, reduced waste, mistake prevention and continuous improvement. Moreover, Virginia Mason is the lowest-priced hospital by admissions type in Seattle, the Washington State Health Alliance reported. "Through focused education, training, and executive and operational coaching, our approach to transformation prepares organizations to deliver safe, high-quality care efficiently and effectively by creating a culture characterized by innovation and motivation," said Diane Miller, executive director at the Institute. The contract is for five years and about $13 million. Announcement
