Nonprofit matches unused prescription meds to low-income patients

In an effort to provide low-income patients with access to expensive medications, a nonprofit organization redistributes unused, unexpired medicine to facilities that serve the patient population, according to The Wall Street Journal. The nonprofit SIRUM, which stands for Supporting Initiatives to Redistribute Unused Medication, considers itself the "Match.com for unused medicine," and has redistributed $4.3 million of medications to dozens of facilities over the past four years. The greatest need is for prescription drugs that treat chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, according to the WSJ. Article
