Cleveland Clinic to take full ownership of Akron General Health System

A year after buying a minority stake in Ohio's Akron General Health System, Cleveland Clinic is exercising an option to take full control of the system, according to Crain's Cleveland Business. When the Clinic bought the stake in 2014, the arrangement gave it the option to take full ownership at any point during the two providers' six-year affiliation. Pending the approval of the state Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission, Akron General, the second-largest employer in Summit County, will formally become part of the Clinic's network in the next few months. "What we are looking at is a gradual integration of the two organizations that will benefit both of them," said Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove, M.D. Article
