Carolinas HealthCare air transport brings $12.6M in revenue

Carolinas HealthCare System in North and South Carolina Health boasts an extensive air ambulance program that includes five planes, three helicopters and 40 employees, the News & Observer reported. The health system uses the aircraft mostly for transporting patients who are critically ill and injured, as well as to retrieve organs for transplants. While Carolinas HealthCare spent about $12 million on the fleet last year, more than 50 other organizations contracted with its aircraft for flights and generated roughly $12.6 million in revenue.
