30% of antibiotics prescribed are inappropriate

A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association estimates that 30 percent of antibiotics prescribed between 2010 and 2011 were inappropriate. The rise of superbugs, infections resistant to common antibiotics, has brought this debate to the forefront, as the continued use of unnecessary antibiotics contributes to the growth of these bacteria.
