, a market leader in patient monitoring innovation, now gives hospital staff faster access to patient information, especially if patients are experiencing adverse events, with the introduction of its first iPad and iPhone application. Nihon Kohden America designed the app to allow hospital staff to take its Defensive and Enterprise Monitoring™ strategy mobile anywhere a clinician requires immediate access to patients near real-time and retrospective data. The innovative mobile monitoring strategy is unique in that it lets medical personnel monitor and track multiple patients’ trends on vital statistics on a continuous basis. The app operates with both Nihon Kohden’s Enterprise Monitoring System and its award-winning , which now permits hospitals to monitor opioid-drip patients for end tidal CO (EtCO), oxygen saturation (SpO), respiration rate, heart rate and noninvasive blood pressure.

“By working with clinicians, nurses and physicians, we designed this multiple-patient mobile app to allow hospital staff to take advantage of a Defensive Monitoring strategy for all patients connected to a Nihon Kohden Monitoring system,” said Mike Dashefsky, vice president, Nihon Kohden America. “We’re putting the power of mobile technology into the hands of physicians, nurses and clinicians, giving them the precious opportunity to respond faster to save lives and reduce costs.”

At the first sign of patient distress, clinicians can be notified through paging systems, and the mobile application provides them with information they need to intervene quicker and mobilize Rapid Response when required. By providing the clinicians with the required tools, quicker assessments and interventions can occur, leading to reduced average length of stay and resulting in better bed utilization and throughput.

This app was developed at NKUSA Labs, a subsidiary of Nihon Kohden Corp.

The new Nihon Kohden Defensive Monitoring iPhone and iPad app will be on display in booth 804 at , the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, which will be held Oct. 13-15 in Washington, D.C.
