Douglas C. Black Appointed Board Chair for SelectHealth

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Utah business and community leader Douglas C. Black has been appointed chairman of the board of SelectHealth, effective April 14. He succeeds Thomas B. Morgan, who has served as chair since 2005. The announcement was made by Kem C. Gardner, chairman of the Intermountain Healthcare Board of Trustees.

The SelectHealth board is comprised of 15 individuals who volunteer their time without pay to direct the nonprofit organization. Board members provide oversight and strategic direction, set policy, approve and monitor performance on annual goals, and ensure SelectHealth operates in the best interest of the community.

Black is vice chairman of Intermountain Healthcare’s Board of Trustees. He joined the Intermountain Board in 2003. He has served on the Board’s Audit, Executive, and Executive Compensation committees and has chaired the Finance and Investment committees. He has also chaired Intermountain’s Governing Board for the Urban Central Region, which includes Intermountain hospitals in the Salt Lake area.

Black is the former Utah District president for Key Bank, an institution he served (including its predecessor institutions) since 1975. His community involvement has included leadership roles with the Utah Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, the Utah Bankers Association, Amerinet, Catholic Community Services, and the Holy Cross Ministries. He has a BS in Economics from the University of Utah and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

“We are so pleased to have Doug’s leadership at this significant time in healthcare,” said Pat Richards, president and CEO of SelectHealth. “He brings a wealth of experience and a perspective gained from his numerous healthcare and business leadership roles. We are very grateful for his commitment.”

Morgan joined the SelectHealth Governing Board in 2002 and has served as its chair since 2005. He served as a member and chair of the Appeals and Executive Committees and was named to Intermountain’s Board of Trustees in 2009. He is leaving both boards for an assignment in his church.

Morgan is the region president for the Central Utah Region of Zions Bank. He has served on the board of directors of the Pacific Coast Banking School, as past chairman and board member of the American Institute of Banking, and as an active volunteer with the United Way, Junior Achievement, and Boy Scouts of America. He is chair of the Utah State Charter School Board. His undergraduate studies were at California State University, Fresno, and he received a graduate degree from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington.

“Tom has always been a true servant-leader,” Richards said. “He is distinguished by his generosity, wisdom, and his great personal warmth and concern for all. His contributions to SelectHealth, our executive leadership team, and our Governing Board have been significant and will always be appreciated.”
