Balancing Health Care Costs with Reform Compliance is Focus of HighRoads Annual Summit May 2-4, 2011

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Employers are facing the dual challenges of controlling health care costs while complying with an increasing number of compliance requirements due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). At the HighRoads 2011 Customer Summit, May 2-4, Fortune 500 employers will share how they are reducing costs related to compliance without sacrificing health care benefits for their employees.

Employer presenters at the Customer Summit include AT&T, Boeing, Deloitte, The Coca-Cola Company, Pitney Bowes and William Bonk, former Director, Benefits, Health & Wellness, Lockheed Martin.

Thomas Barker, former General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and a partner in the law firm of Foley Hoag, will give the keynote speech. At HHS, Mr. Barker was instrumental in implementing the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit (Medicare Part D); Medicaid modernization; former President Bush’s agenda on health care transparency and health information technology, and the President's health care access proposals.

Since the enactment of health care reform, Mr. Barker has counseled Foley Hoag clients on the new law. At Foley Hoag, Barker also focuses his practice on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues for innovator pharmaceutical products; legal, regulatory and strategic advice for multiple Medicare providers; crisis counseling, and providing legal advice to Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans.

“The HighRoads Summit is an important forum in which major employers can dialogue on how best to further integrate health reform into their businesses. I am pleased to participate in the Summit and discuss my experiences in implementing complex health care reform legislation, and hear how these enterprises are addressing various reform issues such as employee benefit design,” said Barker.

“HighRoads clients are representative of the most innovative human resource organizations in the United States and they’re looking for guidance on ACA regulations as well as additional ways to reduce cost and increase employee satisfaction,” said Michael Byers, CEO, HighRoads. “We’re pleased to have Tom Barker’s perspective on reform, given his rich history in driving federal health care reform initiatives to fruition.”

“The HighRoads Summit will also be an opportunity for HighRoads clients to provide firsthand knowledge on how they are implementing further cost control measures, and to examine trends in healthcare benefits planning for 2012 and beyond,” said Byers.

HighRoads Summit Topics will include:

  • Benefits Governance – Meeting higher demands through focused reorganization
  • Centralizing global data to make better strategic decisions
  • Leveraging technology to re-use data in multiple facets of plan design
  • New ways to communicate to employees more effectively

The Summit will be held in Boston at the Millennium Bostonian Hotel. Registration is limited to HR, benefits and compliance professionals within HighRoads’ client base. For more information, email [email protected].
